The Coalition of Civil Society Networks has implored the All Progressives Congress (APC) to compensate Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba Dambuwa, who lost the Sokoto South Senatorial District legal battle to Aminu Tambuwal.
A Court of Appeal had upheld the electoral victory of Tambuwal who served as Governor of Sokoto State.
The Coalition National Coordinator, Ahmed Bello, at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, claimed that the judgement was a miscarriage of justice.
Regardless of the outcome, Bello told the APC to engage in what he called “a thorough soul-searching exercise and adequately compensate Sen. Danbaba for his sacrificial relinquishment of his seat.”
“The Coalition of Civil Society Networks stands here today with heavy hearts and deep concern over the recent judgment by the Court of Appeal upholding the victory of His Excellency Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal against Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba Dambuwa. This decision, in our view, is a desecration and a blatant miscarriage of justice.
“We strongly suspect sabotage at play, leading to a compromise allegedly reached at highest level of political and Judicial intrigues. It has been rumored that there was an assurance that Sen. Tambuwal would decamp to the APC after the judgment. Such dealings, if true, are not only deplorable but also deeply concerning.
“Decisions of this nature, taken at the expense of loyal and dedicated party stalwarts, will undoubtedly have severe repercussions for the APC. This could potentially jeopardize our dominance as the ruling party. It represents a betrayal of the collective will of the good people of Sokoto South senatorial district and undermines the very fabric of democracy.
“We urge the APC to engage in a thorough soul-searching exercise and adequately compensate Sen. Danbaba for his sacrificial relinquishment of his seat. His unwavering dedication, immense political capital, and substantial human and material resources invested should not go unrecognized or unrewarded.
“Let it be known that we are closely monitoring unfolding events. We refuse to stand idly by and witness the party tread this dangerous path of sacrificing loyal members to court opposition elements who have previously worked against the party’s interests.
“In conclusion, we call on the APC leadership to reevaluate their strategies, reaffirm their commitment to justice, and uphold the principles of fairness and loyalty within the party. Our future as a strong and united party depends on these crucial actions,” he said.
