The school was established in 1984 as school for the handicapped but transformed into an all-inclusive institution in 2008 with both normal and physically challenged students in the same school.
Speaking with Daily Trust in Sokoto, principal of the school explained why the school which was originally established for the physically challenged was changed to an inclusive one and why the latest move of stopping new admission for normal students.
“The all-inclusive education was started following the stigmatization of the physically challenged. Subsequently, we started having excellent performance and, hence many people wanted to bring their children here.
 “Now, we have a population of over 5,000 students and we are at the level of depopulation. No more admission for normal children. Our target is to concentrate on special need students,” Modi declared.
He pointed out that “students of primary one to junior secondary school would be taught by professionals and based on their deformity. By the time they reach SS1, they can compete with gifted normal children.”
