Cancer screening is to be introduced at primary healthcare level in Sokoto state.
Commissioner for Health,Dr Balarabe Kakale disclosed this on Monday while commenting on efforts by the state government towards addressing the disease.
The commissioner said personnel would be trained to identify early signs of the various cancers.
According to him, this would allow for requisite intervention at the early stage of the disease.
“We are introducing cancer screening at primary healthcare level, training personnel to identify early signs of cancer-breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer so that intervention could be done and then you achieve cure,” he stated.
He expressed the state government’s commitment towards ensuring appropriate programmes that would strengthen the health system for effective healthcare delivery.
