The Borno State Police Command has arrested five notorious criminals including a soldier who have been terrorising Maiduguri and other states in the North-east region.

The Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu, while parading the suspects at command headquarters in Maiduguri yesterday, said the police recovered three cars out of nine stolen by the suspects.

He said that some members of a five-man gang that specialised in motor vehicles theft – Mohammed Bukar, Ali Musa, Ibrahim Mohammed – were arrested in Yobe State.

The CP said the arrests were made by SARS operatives in Maiduguri following tips received by the command after the syndicate stole a Honda Civic car parked at the premises of a bank.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered along with two other vehicles reported stolen and efforts are in top gear to recover the remaining six cars even the sold vehicles,” he said, adding that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

“It is unfortunate, a military personnel whose identity is being withheld pending disciplinary actions by the military, is among the syndicate members,” he also said.
