There was tension in Kugbo spare parts market on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway as a yet-to-be identified soldier allegedly stabbed an electrician to death on Thursday.
Our reporter learnt that there was an argument between the duo, which resulted to beating of the soldier and subsequent stabbing of the electrician simply identified as ‘Yellow’ by the soldier.
The development caused protest by the deceased’s colleagues in the market leading to the burning down of the soldier’s car, while he fled for his life.
A trader in the area who doesn’t want his name in print, said the situation triggered fears, making shop owners to close their shops immediately.
“The soldier came with a car for the electrician to work on, but after few hours they started an argument and the soldier brought out a knife and stabbed the man to death, and ran away.
“His car was burnt by colleagues of the deceased, but the situation is calm now because few policemen came into the market.”
Another spare parts dealer, said, “The soldier came with the car first to me but I told him that I was busy, so he should give it to another person. Later, a heated argument started, resulting in the killing of the electrician and burning of the soldier’s vehicle.”
A mechanic in the area, Yusuf Mustapha, told Daily Trust via telephone that the police later took over the place to restore peace.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, Josephine Adeh, proved abortive as several calls to her phone did not connect.
The army authorities are also yet to react to the development which comes weeks after a major business place in Abuja was shut for weeks over the assault of soldiers.
