Barely one week after the troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) intercepted drug dealers on the Manchok-Riyom road in Plateau State with 320 blocks of Indian hemp, the troops on Tuesday evening again intercepted a drug syndicate and recovered 248 blocks of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects, ex-Corporal Essien Friday (60), a retired soldier; and Ibrahim Ali (50), who were paraded at the OPSH headquarters in Jos, claimed they were contracted to convey the illicit substance to Yola in Adamawa State from Ondo State.
Other items recovered from the suspects included 18 wraps of Indian hemp ready for smoking, two smartphones, three travelling bags, one lighter and two wallets.
The OPSH said the suspects and the items had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Plateau State Command.
