Soldiers have rescued the abducted Wakilin Fulani of Janjala, Alhaji Ata Adamu Wakili, alongside 37 others that comprised women and children.
They also recovered some of the rustled cows in Janjala community in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.
A member of the Wakilin Fulani family, Ahmad Ati, who confirmed the rescue of the victims to our reporter through telephone on Tuesday, said the Fulani leader and other victims were rescued at neighbouring Kurutu forest by the troops.
He said the troops divided themselves into two groups, adding that some entered the forest through Kurutu village in Kachia, while others entered from Kagarko forest and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
He gave the names of some of the rescued victims to include Maimun, Talatuwa, Ummi, Laure, Abubakar, Lawal, Dahiru and a teenage girl, Zainab, saying some of the victims were receiving treatment at a hospital in Kagarko town.
“Alhamdulilah, we give glory to God as our father, the Wakilin Fulani of Janjala, Alhaji Ata Adamu Wakili and others were rescued by some gallant soldiers around Kurutu forest and some of them have been reunited with their families while some are receiving treatment at a hospital,’’ he said.
A community leader from the area, who confirmed the incident, commended the soldiers for their prompt action in trailing the bandits to rescue the victims and also recovered the rustled cows.
It would be recall that bandits had on Monday, around 10 pm, invaded Janjala community and abducted the Wakilin Fulani of the community alongside some villagers and also rustled cows.
Police in the area confirmed their release.
