General Maina who stated this at a press conference at the Rukuba Barracks in Jos yesterday said the order is in line with section 217 sub section 2 (c) of the 1999 Nigerian constitution.

With the present directive Maina explained, only the military can mount security posts and provide security for residents as even the police have been barred from doing so while the police are not to be seen during the hours of the curfew between 5pm to 10 am.

The GOC said only those who provide essential services like medical personnel, water board, journalists and few others are exempted from the curfew hours. He said any policeman found outside during the curfew hours would be arrested unless he shows a written permission from the commissioner of police authorising him to move at that hour.

The GOC confirmed that the crisis which started in Jos had spread to other parts of the state like Barkin Ladi Bokkos, Mangu and Pankshin local governments.
