Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State said on Thursday that the state would begin paying a new minimum wage of N70,000 starting in October 2024.
He made this declaration during a meeting with principals and headteachers at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Soludo revealed that all senior secondary students in public schools will start receiving free education, beginning next week.
This expands on the state’s current policy of free education for students from Basic to Junior Secondary School, which has been in place since 2023.

The governor also said senior secondary students who had already paid the N5,000 fee for the current term would be refunded.
This decision reflects the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on families while enhancing educational access across the state, he said.
The governor said these policies are expected to have a considerable positive impact on workers and students across Anambra State, further promoting access to quality education and raising the standard of living for citizens.
