A young man whose identity is yet to be ascertained has allegedly stabbed his father, Mr Adimike Godwin, to death at his residence in the Guzape area of Abuja.
Abuja Metro gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 11.12pm following a misunderstanding between the suspect, said to be a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and his father.
It was gathered that the disagreement started after the deceased allegedly questioned his son over what he described as anti-social behaviour and his late return from a club.
Sources said the argument later escalated, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed his father with a knife.
Our correspondent further learnt that the confrontation was also linked to the alleged mismanagement of business funds.
The incident reportedly attracted the attention of neighbours, who alerted security operatives. However, the suspect was said to have fled before the arrival of the police.
The deceased, who was involved in the real estate business, had reportedly travelled from Lagos to Abuja to visit his son when the incident occurred.
A colleague of the deceased said he frequently shuttled between Lagos and Abuja for business activities.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing.
“The FCT Police Command is investigating the death of Mr Adimike Godwin of Guzape, which was discovered following a distress call.
“On arrival, the police found the injured victim in a pool of his own blood. He was confirmed dead by doctors on duty at Karu General Hospital. The police have taken five suspects, including a relative, into custody as part of a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm and report any relevant information to the command,” she said.
