The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Tuesday certified 80 manufacturers and 130 products in a major step towards promoting product quality and consumer safety in Kano State.
SON presented a total of 327 quality certificates to the companies under its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP), which verifies that products meet the Nigerian Industrial Standards.
Speaking, Albert Wilberforce, Director of SON in the Kano region, described the ceremony as a historic moment for the agency and the Nigerian manufacturing sector.
“This is a very significant moment in the life of SON and Nigerian manufacturers,” Wilberforce said.
“Just like nurturing and naming a child, these manufacturers have gone through a rigorous process, and today we proudly certify that their products meet required national standards,” he added.
He explained that the certification assures consumers that the products have been tested and confirmed safe and reliable, urging the public to buy certified Nigerian goods with confidence.
“The MANCAP certificate is a testimony to the world that these products can be trusted. We encourage Nigerians to patronise them proudly,” he said.
Wilberforce called on informal and small-scale producers to embrace the certification process, noting that SON does not discriminate based on the size of the company.
“Our interest lies in ensuring that every product, regardless of who makes it, meets the Nigerian Industrial Standards.
“From product identification to final certification, we support manufacturers every step of the way,” he said.
According to SON, the 327 certificates issued in Kano cover a wide range of goods across various sectors, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to ensuring that only safe, high-quality products are allowed in the Nigerian market.
