SON in a letter dated July 22, 2013 informed the president of BCPG, Mr Kunle Awobodu that SON’s Director General had approved collaboration of members of Building Collapse Taskforce with BCPG.
The SON’s  letter to BCPG president, signed by the Head of Department, Metrology Directorate, Engr. O.F. Manafa, on behalf of SON’s Director General, Dr Joseph Odumodu read: “The Director-General/Chief Executive approved the taskforce to work with your team on the collaboration activities as he promised during the meeting held with him on Wednesday, 2013-04-24 at SON operational headquarters, Lagos.”
Some of the factors responsible for collapse of buildings include use of substandard building materials, faulty foundation, wrong construction methodology, shoddy jobs, poor procurement system, faulty design, poor concrete mix, engagement of quacks by building owners, government’s lack of capacity to monitor and supervise  building and construction sites and lack of building approval among others.
BCPG is made up of volunteers, who are professionals and artisans in the building sector.
They came together for the common purpose of putting an end to the embarrassing incidents of building collapse in Nigeria especially Lagos.
