The son of late Alhaja Fadilat Titilayo Yusuf, who was murdered in Ilorin, has narrated how his mother was killed by a teenage boy alleged to be the child of his father’s mistress.

The incident occurred on June 12, 2025, at the Danialu area of Gaa Akanbi in the Kwara State capital.

The suspect, 17-year-old Malik, allegedly stabbed the victim to death inside the family’s compound mosque. He has since been arrested, according to the spokeswoman for the state command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi SP.

According to the bereaved son, during a visit at the weekend, Yusuf Teslim, the suspect, had been previously accepted into the household by his father but was later banned from visiting, allegedly due to issues of theft and bad behaviour.

“Malik stabbed my mum, Alhaja Fadilat Titilayo Yusuf, to death,” Yusuf said.

“He is the son of my father’s mistress. Though my father accepted him as one of his own and brought him to live with us, he was later discovered to be a thief.

“That led to his being stopped from coming to our house,” he claimed. Yusuf explained how he met Malik on the street while heading to the mosque for the Juma’at prayers on the day of the incident.

“I greeted him but wondered why he was around after being told not to come again. I didn’t stop him because I was rushing to go and pray,” he said

Upon returning, he said he began to notice unusual signs in the compound.

“I heard the sound of a tap running and someone knocking at the gate to buy garri. I assumed my mother was at the tap performing ablution.

“I tried to open the mosque door but it was locked from inside. I called out to her: ‘Mummy, Mummy’ but got no response.”

He said, he sold garri to the visitor at the gate and during that time saw Malik running out of the mosque.

“I thought he came to steal again, but then I saw him washing his hands suspiciously at the tap. He had earlier worn blue Kampala with a backpack, which I believe contained the weapons. But when he rushed out, he had changed clothes, except his white shoes, which had blood stains.

“I rushed in and found my mother lying in a pool of blood. She was still bleeding heavily even at the time we buried her. The stabbing was brutal.”

Yusuf appealed to authorities and Nigerians for support and justice. “This matter must not be swept under the carpet. The pain and way she was killed are unbearable. I want justice. Let the government and the people of this country come to our aid.”
