The police have arraigned a 37-year-old man before an Ogba Chief Magistrate‘s Court over his alleged attempt to strangle his 72-year-old mother.

 The accused, Alade Kolawole, allegedly took offence when his aged mother, Oluwalembe Kolawole, rebuked him for an offence he committed.

 The police said the accused had nursed a grudge against his mother since December 15, 2022.

 The incident happened at Bamgboye Street, Fagba area of Lagos State, where they reside.

The accused was said to have grabbed hold his mother by the neck and allegedly tried to strangle her before she was rescued by the neighbours.

 He was arrested and charged before the court following a petition to the commissioner of police, who ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, to arrest him over the unruly conduct.

 When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

 The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Layinka, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

 The case was adjourned till February 28, 2023.
