A 30-year-old man, identified as Pere Odese, allegedly killed his father, Friday Odese, during an altercation over food in Edo State.

The suspect was, however, reportedly lynched by an angry mob while attempting to flee the community.

The incident occurred in Ikhehe community, Ewato, in Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said the deceased, a farmer, was allegedly attacked by his son after he told him there was no food in the house.

It was gathered that the father explained he had been unable to access his farm to harvest cassava because of insecurity and the activities of armed men in the bush around the area.

The situation reportedly led to a heated argument between father and son, during which the suspect allegedly picked up a cutlass and attacked his father, killing him.

A resident of the area said a neighbour who attempted to rescue the deceased sustained machete injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The source added that youths and residents later apprehended the suspect while he was trying to escape and beat him to death, bringing the death toll to two.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the command was aware of the incident but said the matter had yet to be formally reported to the police.
