This was disclosed by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, at a recent training workshop on agronomic, harvest and post harvest management techniques of handling improved high yielding sorghum varieties for maximum productivity and quality grain uptake organised by the ministry in Kano.
The minister who was represented by Kano State Director of Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), Ahmadu Idris Yamel, stated that the workshop was targeted at Kano, Jigawa, Katsina and Kaduna states.
He said that 150 participants were drawn from the four states, adding that the project is to develop and enhance the value chain of selected commodities that are expected to either be primary cash crops or can be expanded beyond any subsistence needs to become major cash crops with potential for industrial application.
He explained that during the training, farmers will be taught the basic principles of threshers and milling equipment, stressing that basic maintenance techniques of the equipment will also be demonstrated.
