SOS to Buhari on Wukari violence

Before now, the All Progressive Congress, APC, was poised to win all elections in Taraba State due to the  popularity of the party, peaceful conduct of members and the disposition of the party, as well as its acceptance by the people.

Unfortunately, certain things have happened that are beginning to turn around the fortunes of the party.

Members and stakeholders of the APC in Taraba have pointed out that the party’s acceptance began to witness a decline after the party’s National Working Committee and President Muhammadu Buhari failed  to address the injustice perpetrated during the party’s inconclusive gubernatorial primary tussle.

This is causing the party a great deal of disaffection and is fast eroding it’s good fortune that no well-meaning member of the party can overlook.

Unfolding events since the flag off of the governorship campaign in Ibi Local Government Area of the state which was characterized with violence has shown that the party would fair better with a more amiable and acceptable personality as candidate..

Well-meaning members of the party and other stakeholder  have consistently complained and cried out to the leadership of the APC that the alleged governorship flag bearer in Taraba, Sani Abubakar Danladi is not a sellable candidate due to his association in the past  with persons who are seen as the problems of Taraba State.

Many members are of the view that the injustice that characterized the party primary should be addressed to produce more saleable candidates with no record of political violence.

The fear is that if the current position stands, the APC in Taraba cannot rise above some of the allegations of corruption currently labelled by other parties in Taraba because it would be said that a key member of the party was part of the process that brought about these problems.

Taraba can do better than a situation where people in the name of politics brandish all sorts of weapons at political rallies and unleash mayhem on communities in the name of campaign as it happened recently in Wukari where over 10 vehicles were burnt and four people killed.

The National Working Committee must investigate why since the inconclusive governorship primaries/congresses in the party there has been increasing records of violence, killings and destructions of properties in a large scale during campaigns.

The party owes it a duty to sanitise the home front of political violence before going into the general elections.

Our people are also worried that people who joined the APC from PDP in less than one year and still serve as Special Advisers to opposition figures at the National Assembly should not be the ones flying the party tickets in the state.

It’s never too late to put Taraba APC on a victorious path, Mr. President and the APC National Working Committee (NWC) should quickly do the needful by addressing the injustice perpetrated during the APC governorship primaries / congresses so as to preserve the massive support base of APC in Taraba state from depleting beyond redemption.
