A renewed call for unity and political collaboration was made over the weekend as the South-East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) urged leaders in the South-East to shift away from opposition politics and align with the federal government to accelerate development in the region.

Speaking at an empowerment program in Owerri, Imo State, the coordinator of SERHA, Belusochukwu Enwere, emphasized the need for South-East leaders to embrace President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to Enwere, closer collaboration with the federal government would ensure the region benefits from the dividends of democracy more effectively.

“We call on political leaders of South-East extraction to provide guidance and support to rally around the administration of President Bola Tinubu for effective leadership in the country,” Enwere said.

Hailing the economic policies and reforms of the Tinubu-led government, Enwere encouraged Nigerians to back these initiatives, emphasizing their long-term potential for economic prosperity. He highlighted reforms such as local government autonomy, which he said would enhance grassroots development, and tax reforms aimed at reducing excessive taxation to boost businesses.

On the empowerment program organized by SERHA, Enwere noted that it aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to connect citizens to government policies and ensure they benefit from democratic dividends.

“The first phase of the empowerment program provided financial support as follows: 100 SMEs received ₦200,000 each; another 100 individuals received ₦100,000 each; 200 SMEs were given ₦50,000 each; and 500 indigent families received ₦20,000 each,” Enwere explained.

He also highlighted the distribution of tools such as sewing machines, grinding machines, and other equipment to skilled individuals, along with food supplies like bags of rice. The initiative, he added, aims to empower thousands of youths and women in the South-East region.

“Our goal is to empower thousands of youths and women across the South-East region. Women and youth are the bedrock and drivers of sustainable development in any society,” said Enwere, who also serves as the National President of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN).

In his keynote address, Professor Frank Aneto of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and political engagement in unlocking the South-East’s economic potential. Speaking on the topic, “Empowering South-East Nigeria for Economic Emancipation and Prosperity,” Aneto underscored the role of political alignment in fostering growth and development in the region.

The event marked another step in SERHA’s mission to bridge the gap between the South-East and the federal government while fostering economic empowerment and prosperity.
