The South-South Youth Coalition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned what it described as calculated attempts to undermine or replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of 2027 election, warning that such internal politicking could destabilise the Tinubu-led administration.

Rising from an emergency consultative meeting held on Monday, in Port Harcourt, the coalition urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain focused on delivering quality, people-centered governance, stressing that this is not the time for distractions or political scheming.

In a communiqué jointly signed by the Zonal Youth Leader, Comrade Sheik Aliu Mahmud, and the Secretary-General, Comrade Emma Orupe, a copy obtained by Daily Trust in Abuja, the youth group expressed concern over what it termed “unnecessary internal distractions” within the APC-led federal government.

The group called on party leaders to eschew acts that could threaten stability and unity at the highest levels of power.

“Our nation is at a defining moment. The people expect results, reforms, and real progress. This is not the time for political scheming or backdoor maneuvers to destabilise the Presidency.

“Vice President Shettima has demonstrated capacity, loyalty, and political maturity, and we, as youths of the South-South, will resist any plot to sideline or replace him”, the group said.

The group reaffirmed its support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, emphasising that the mandate freely given by Nigerians during the 2023 general elections must be respected and protected.

The statement further urged President Tinubu to stay the course on his Renewed Hope Agenda, saying Nigerians, particularly young people, are eager to see results in areas such as employment, education, infrastructure, and security.

“Any attempt to distract the government from this focus is a betrayal of the people’s trust,” Mahmud declared.

In addition to its call for political stability, the coalition advocated for the strengthening of APC structures across the South-South and greater inclusion of youths in governance and decision-making processes.

“We will not sit by and watch individuals derail the progress we’ve made. We stand for stability, equity, and competent governance. Let the Tinubu-Shettima team be allowed to work without distraction,” the communiqué said.
