South-South male and female teams showed sheer dominance, winning all their games and eventually claimed the titles at the 6th edition of the Nigeria Cricket Federation/Price Corper Water National championship in Abuja.

It was their sixth consecutive victory in the girls’ event and fifth in the boys’ event at the NCF/PwC tournament, where more talents were discovered.

At this edition, their male team showed supremacy over the South West counterpart in the final to clinch the first position while the South East came third.

Earlier, in the female category, the South South Female cricket team beat their South East counterparts to win the tournament for six consecutive times.

Speaking after the event held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the President of NCF, Mr Uyi Akpata, lauded the standard of competition in this year’s edition, saying there have been a remarkable improvement in the last six years.

“And I think for some reason or the other, I believe the success of the U19 girls in Malaysia helped all the players that we’ve seen today,” he said.

In his remarks, the representative of PwC, Mr Tolu Adeleke, said that the tournaments have produced a lot of new talents that would represent Nigeria at future national and international competitions.

“I think it’s been very great overall, and we’re happy. We’re excited that we can discover more talent, and I’m sure that the tournament has produced a lot of new talents.

 

“That will hopefully fit into the next set of the under-19 team for boys and girls, and they can carry on to the senior team,” he said.
