A United States of America-based non Governmental Organization (NGO), Eyes4Africa Foundation,

has distributed 5,000 eyeglasses to the people suffering from eye problem in Nigeria.

The director of the NGO, Dr. Michelle J. McCollin who disclosed this in Ibadan said the programme has been taken to 30 different cities, towns and villages across eight states which include; Lagos, Edo, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Kwara, Ekiti and Osun.

McCollin said the programme which was tagged: “Changing the world, One person at a time” was aimed at providing aid and access to visual, educational and emergency health resources to people on a global level, even in the most remote areas.

According to her, the core responsibility of the organisation was to provide thousands of school appliances for the children like; books, bags, shoes and school uniforms most especially to indigent children in Africa and the West Indies.

"We brought 5,000 eye glasses to Nigeria and we are concluding the distribution this week. We provide education, co-ordination, resources and aids by conducting free eye glass clinics and distributing free eyeglasses to all who are tested and fit. We also provide school supplies like; books bags, shoes and school uniforms to children in indigenous areas in Africa and the West Indies.

"I plan big show in the next summer. I was flabbergasted with the award received from the people, especially the Ado-Odo Otta Local Government administrator,"she concluded.

The Oshodi in Lagos State coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Oluwaseun Agboola said she supervised distribution of over 200 eye glasses in Oshodi and Togolese community, adding that Ayoni Primary Health centre in Mafoluku was used for the distribution. 

In Sango Otta area of Ogun State, Oluwo Fashola Faniyi Babatunde said, he created enough awareness before the commencement of the distribution at the local government secretariat, adding that the award received by the chairperson of the NGO from the local government administrator was a source of encouragement.

He said; "Young and old benefited from the scheme. We have created enough awareness before the programme which gave us leverage on the distribution."
