A civil society group under the banner of the Southern Kaduna People’s Alliance for Good Governance Against Divisive Politics has urged youth in the region to shun actions that promote disunity and political conflict.

At a press conference held in Kaduna, the group condemned what it described as recent attempts by certain individuals, under the aegis of the Southern Kaduna Youth Stakeholders Forum, to incite political tensions and discredit prominent regional leaders.

Specifically, the group criticised efforts to pit Senator Sunday Marshall Katung against Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the siting of federal projects in Southern Kaduna.

“We are deeply concerned about the growing trend of mischief disguised as youth activism, which only serves to inflame political tempers,” said Comrade Edward John Auta, the group’s Convener. “No true Southern Kaduna youth should oppose the partnerships that have brought tangible development to our region.”

The alliance expressed strong support for Senator Katung, praising his role in facilitating the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan. They described these achievements as milestones resulting from collaboration across party lines.

“We commend Senator Katung for sponsoring the necessary bills and rallying bipartisan support to make these projects a reality,” the group added.

“Instead of condemnation, he deserves our collective appreciation for his dedication to regional progress.” the group said.

The group called on political stakeholders and interest groups to rise above partisan interests and unite for the common good of Southern Kaduna. According to them, political unity among leaders, regardless of party affiliation, has already yielded benefits that must be preserved and strengthened.

“We appeal to President Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and all our leaders to ignore divisive voices and stay focused on delivering more developmental projects for our people,” Auta stated.

Beyond politics, the group also commended the Federal Government and security agencies for noticeable improvements in the region’s security landscape. They acknowledged the role of General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff and a native of Southern Kaduna, in helping to maintain the current level of relative peace.

Despite this progress, the group raised concerns over ongoing threats from banditry and kidnapping, calling for sustained efforts to protect lives and property.

They also drew attention to the poor condition of the Kagoro–Manchok–Jos federal highway. Urging Senator Katung to help lobby the Federal Government for its rehabilitation, they described the road as a critical link for transportation and economic activities between Kaduna and the northeastern part of the country.
