Youth leaders and stakeholders from the eight local government areas of Southern Kaduna Senatorial District have dissociated themselves from a recent rally held rally in solidarity with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, insisting that the individuals behind the gathering do not represent the zone.
The development came as hundreds of youths on Thursday in Kaduna metropolis staged a protest demanding a probe into the activities of the former governor, less than 24 hours after another group had demonstrated over his continued detention.
Addressing journalists in Kafanchan, the Southern Kaduna youth leaders described the solidarity rally as a “mischievous narrative” orchestrated by persons they said were unknown to the people of the district.
“We wish to make it unequivocally clear that those individuals are unknown and do not represent the people of Southern Kaduna and cannot speak on behalf of our communities,” the group said, urging the public to disregard what they termed “the statements of these aliens with Southern Kaduna vibes.”
In a statement jointly signed by Nasiru Jagaba, former Youth Leader of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU), and Comrade Derek Christopher, Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Peace and Security Network (SKPSN), the coalition accused supporters of the former governor of ignoring what they described as painful experiences in the area during his administration.
“For personal gain, they have suddenly forgotten the killings, the rapes, the destruction of properties, and the merciless murder of children, including infants in their mothers’ wombs, that occurred during that period,” the statement read.
The coalition called on the DSS, EFCC and ICPC to sustain investigations into an alleged bail out fund and demanded full public disclosure over claims that public funds were paid to armed groups during the previous administration.
