Participants including directors from Ministries of Women Affairs across Southwest States on Thursday met in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to deliberate ahead of the forthcoming National Council on Women Affairs.
They met at a the Pre-Council Workshop for the Southwest Zone towards the National Council of Women Affairs organised by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Ogun State ministry.
Daily Trust reports that the meeting forms a preparatory effort for the 25th National Council meeting on Women Affairs scheduled to hold in Benin, Edo State.
In her opening speech, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State, Hon Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, said the workshop was more than a routine meeting, but “a convergence of purpose, a call to action, and an opportunity to reflect, reimagine, and realign our collective strategies for empowering women, protecting the
vulnerable, and strengthening families and communities.”
Adeleye, a former member of the House of Assembly, noted that gender disparities still remain a challenge in Nigeria.
She said “This forum provides fertile ground for robust dialogue, policy brainstorming, and experience-sharing that will help shape outcomes at the forthcoming National Council of Women Affairs.”
In Ogun, Adeleye said the government takes pride in its commitment to inclusive governance.
“Our Ministry has continued to implement impactful initiatives focused on gender equity, economic empowerment, protection of children, and support for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
“But we know that no State can walk this journey alone. Collaboration, as we are witnessing here today, is the soul of progress.”
She told the gathering to engage deeply, speak boldly, and listen intently.
“Let our conversations be guided by facts, driven by compassion, and rooted in the vision of a Nigeria where women are not just seen—but are heard, respected, and empowered. Let us challenge ourselves to leave here not just with reports and recommendations, but with renewed resolve and actionable plans that will transform lives in every corner of our region,” she said.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr. Maryam Keshinro, whose address was read by Ms Esther Ameh, said the gathering focused on the presidential priority areas of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Ministerial Deliverables and the Key performance indicators to actualize the ministry’s mandate for women,children, families and the vulnerable groups.
“We are all here due to our onerous passion for achieving the mandate of the Ministry of Women affairs.
“Your passion and dedication shall help us all to unite and the energy we create will always allow us to achieve our collective goals,” Keshinro said.
