 A statement from the events centre said the Award for Investigative Reporting is designed to honour annually the works of Nigerian reporters that reflect the promotion and respect for human rights and anti-corruption as substantive values in the development of the country’s democracy.

 “This year’s event will see journalists honoured for works which have been adjudged by a nine-man jury consisting of seasoned professional women and men of astute character from the one hundred and thirty-two entries received. It is important to note that this year witnessed the highest number of entries so far since 2005 when the first call for entries was made,” the statement said.

 The statement said that as is the tradition of the organisation, a Lifetime Award for Journalistic Excellence will be given to a veteran Nigerian journalist.

 It said that the Centre will give the first National Anti-Corruption Defender Award to a Nigerian whose work has made laudable contributions to the anti-graft fight in the country and will be made in coalition with about a dozen Nigerian civil society organisations.

 According to the Centre, the ceremony which will take place at the Events Centre of Cadbury, Agidingbi road behind M.K.O Abiola Gardens, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, will be chaired by the Ambassador of the Royal Netherlands Embassy to Nigeria, Ambassador Arie van der Wiel.

 It added that Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state will be the special guest while Professor Wole Soyinka, Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature will deliver the keynote address.
