The exhibition according to Spanish Ambassador Angel Losada Fernandez, “Coinciding with the FIFA U-17 World Cup taking place in Nigeria presently, is to give young Nigerian artists an opportunity to show their talents and to untie both countires through a common passion- football and a common language – art.

The competition entitled Nigeria vs Spain: Football Passion had entries from across the federation with works expressing the theme.

Of the 39 shortlisted works which were exhibited at the grand finale, works by Daniel Adaka, Folani Razaq and Ademola Adebambo came first, second and third respectively.

Adaka who will have an all expense paid trip to Spain come February next year explained his work saying, “I tried to imagine a world cup final between Nigeria and Spain with the legendary artists Pablo Picasso and Ben Enwonwu, a prolific painter and sculptor attacking for Nigeria and two great living legends Kanu Nwankwo and Fernando Torres leading the supporters club and playing with such dexterity and passion on indigenous musical instruments; the talking drum and the mandolin.” This metaphoric fusion of colours dynamically rendered,  he hoped would feed the imagination of critics and inspire them.
