The Scientific Products Association of Nigeria (SPAN) has unveiled plans for its flagship event, SPANInnovate 2025, tagged The Big Science Bonanza, which aims to promote science, laboratory practice, and innovation as key drivers of Nigeria’s sustainable development.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the President of SPAN, Dr. (Mrs.) Kate Isa, said the two-day conference and exhibition, scheduled for October 28–29, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, will bring together stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and research to drive measurable progress in the nation’s science and innovation sectors.
Isa explained that this year’s edition, themed “Science, Laboratory, and Sustainable National Development,” seeks to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation by creating a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and investment in scientific advancement.
She emphasized that science is not only the foundation of technology but also the bedrock of every sustainable economy, noting that Nigeria must prioritize laboratory development and research in its policies if it hopes to achieve global competitiveness and self-reliance.
She announced that SPANInnovate 2025 has received strong institutional support from key agencies, including the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), and the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN).
According to her, PVAC’s National Coordinator, Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, will flag off the conference and exhibition, during which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between PVAC and SPAN. She described these collaborations as evidence of a collective resolve to build a science-driven economy where innovation is applied to address real national challenges.
Isa said the event will feature high-level conferences, expert panel discussions, exhibitions of cutting-edge laboratory and scientific products, masterclasses, and networking sessions connecting scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and regulators. She added that participants will also enjoy exclusive discounts of up to 40 percent on products showcased during the exhibition.
She called on policymakers, investors, innovators, and members of the scientific community to seize the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable national development.
