The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, has called for better collaboration and coordination with the United Nation’s efforts to address the impacts of security and socio-economic challenges in Nigeria.

He made the call while receiving the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) in Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Fall, and his team in Abuja on Tuesday.

The speaker, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, lamented that resources had been wasted in the past due to duplication of programmes and projects by the federal, state and local governments, as well as foreign donors.

He, therefore, called for better coordination and harmonisation of interventions by foreign bodies to maximise benefits of the limited resources.

He also called for better synergy between the federal government, sub-nationals and the National Assembly, saying that the projects emanating from the National Assembly to the sub-nationals and the LGAs ran into billions of naira.

Earlier, the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Fall noted that the meeting with the speaker was “long overdue,” adding that the intention was based on “a very complex assignment.”

He noted that while he was from Senegal, the African sub-region “look up to Nigeria in the region.”

Part of the UN delegation that met the speaker are the Peace Development Advisor, Kim TooGood; Consultant to the UN, Hajiya Maryam Uwais; and the Press Officer to the UN, Seyi Soremekun.
