The 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections recently concluded was adjudged to be one of the best elections to have been conducted in Nigeria. One arm of government that is very important and unique to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria is the legislative arm. During the long years of military rule, the only arm of government that was not functional was the Legislature. The return to democracy brought with the operationalization of all the arms of government, thus legislative duties have become the sole responsibility of those with the training and quality legislative competence. The quality of leadership at the helm of affairs of the legislative arm of government will shape our democracy, and strengthen separation of powers among the three tiers of government.

As the preparation gears up for the choice of  leaders in the ninth assembly, all hands must be on deck to ensure that people with capacity, knowledge of legislative duties man the affairs of the national assembly. As we await the leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC, the party with the majority members in both chambers of the national assembly to avail or make decision of how and where the key positions or leaderships of the national assembly go to.

The people of the North Central Political Zone are clamoring that the speakership of the House of Representative should be zone to them; the north central caucus of the House of Representatives has made its choice known and wants the speaker of the House of Representatives to be someone from the zone.

In the North Central Zone, we have vibrant returning members that have the capacity and leadership quality to lead the House of Representatives. One of those members is Hon Mohammed Umaru Bago, member representing Chanchanga Federal Constituency of Niger State. Bago is a man of many shades who has his fingers in many pies, Bago is a democrat per excellence, and he is courageous, selfless, pragmatic and a successful leader.

Hon Bago is a third term member, he is eloquent, gifted with oratorial skills, Hon Bago is one of the few legislators that have never been a member of the former ruling party, PDP .

Hon Bago is a true democrat, whose contributions to the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari was significant, his versatility and dynamism coupled with his exceptional intelligence and very calm soundness of mind, enables him juggle these high demanding responsibilities with remarkable ease, marking him out as an enigma in Nigeria’s political firmament, Hon Bago will be bringing these qualities to bear when elected as the next speaker, House of Representatives.

Among other contributions, he donated more than one hundred vehicles for President Buhari re-election. Hon Bago’s attendance at the green chamber is reputable; he sponsored bills and moved several motions. Bago is a grassroot personality, his administrative acumen would be of great asset to the Nigerian project, He is detribalized and a champion of community development.

Niger state got President Buhari the highest votes in the North Central, all these was due also to the efforts of Hon Bago and other APC stakeholders in the state .

It would only be natural to reward loyalty, Bago has been an obedient loyalist of Buharism and of the larger APC family, He is a man of exceptional ideals, trustworthy and fits into the qualities demanded to steer the leadership of the House of Representatives.

Bago has never been found wanting in all the places he has worked either as a banker or public office holder. It is our hope that the APC leadership won’t hesitate in presenting Hon Bago as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
