The Special Care Baby Unit (Inborn) marked this year’s Valentine’s Day with a joyful and memorable celebration filled with appreciation, unity, and warmth.

The event was graced by the esteemed unit Consultants: Dr Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, Dr. Juliet Eigbobo, and Dr. Henrietta Ugbeni. Also present were Matron Juliet Ogbeide-(Matron-in-charge), Dr Josephine Asunomeh (Senior Registrar), Dr Affusim Junior and Dr Iwieribhor were the House Officers on duty. Matron Maji of the Post-Natal Ward joined in the celebration while Matrons Efezokhai Lauretta, Agoni Blessing, and Uwara Comfort were also present. Nurses Okoko Sandra, and Akuekegbe Favour were not left out in the joyous celebration. Mrs Ogogo Patience, Head of the Ward Maintenance team (Divoke) other support Staff as well as some of the mothers whose Babies are on admission joined in the celebration.

The celebration featured heartfelt appreciation speeches beginning with the Unit Head, Dr Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, who expressed gratitude to every member of the team for their commitment, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to the care of our Babies. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Medical Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital Prof Reuben Agbons Eifediyi for the support he is giving to the Unit through the provision of quality equipment and other necessary materials for the improved care of our sick Babies.Other Consultants, Doctors, Matrons, Nurses, and the Head of the cleaning unit also shared kind and encouraging words, emphasizing unity and collaboration within the Unit. It was emphasized that unity of purpose and dedication to duty will no doubt help in reducing our mortality statistics to the barest minimum.

The highlight of the event was the ceremonial cutting of the Valentine’s cake, followed by the sharing of drinks and snacks while Valentine’gift items were also shared amongst Staff members. The atmosphere was further enlivened with soft music and dancing, creating moments of joy, bonding, and relaxation for everyone present.

It was indeed a beautiful celebration that strengthened our team spirit and reminded us of the importance of love, empathy, appreciation, and togetherness in the service we render every day.
