Nigeria Amputee National Team also known as ‘Special Eagles’ have bemoaned the lack of support from the federal government ahead of the 7th Amputee Nations Cup in Tanzania.

While appearing on Silverbird TV yesterday and monitored by our correspondent, the captain of the team, Sarafadeen Olalekan lamented over the lack of preparation for the tournament that is billed from November 26 to December 5.

“Presently at the National team, things are not going the way it is supposed to be as our preparation towards the next Nations Cup has not been encouraging. Up to this moment, we have not opened camp and also all the logistics have not been put in place,” he said.

Olalekan, further, called on the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare to come to their aid as they also prepare to feature in next year’s Amputee World Cup coming up in Turkey.

“There’s no funding. Even now, we have not gotten flight tickets and we will be travelling with an 18-man team. We need support for logistics, feeding and kicking” he quipped.

Olalekan added that the team is yet to also get recognition and compensation from the government since its exploits in the last Nations Cup.

The 7th Amputee Nations Cup will feature 18 countries.
