Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reinforced his commitment to underserved communities with the donation of a new 32-seater Toyota Coaster bus to the School for Special Needs in Ilorin.

The school is the only public secondary school dedicated to children requiring special education in the state.

The school authorities described the donation as a consistent pattern of support from the Governor since he assumed office in 2019.

The Governor also presented a new 32-seater Toyota Coaster bus to Queen School Ilorin, the foremost girls-only school in the state.

The presentations were made during separate visits to the schools in Ilọrin in response to earlier requests by the institutions.

The Governor said the buses would ease mobility and enhance learning outcomes, adding that his administration will continue to provide facilities that create a conducive learning environment.

“We have to keep our eyes on the ball. The fact that they have challenges means we need to give them attention for the sake of these children of special needs.

“We need to make sure that the Ministry of Education also focuses on their needs. We have about 500 students here with various special needs that our government must continue to cater for,” the Governor said at the School for Special Needs in Oyun, Ilorin.

According to him, “This intervention is additional. We have done most of what was required before now. We provided different learning aids and hearing machines, though we still need to add more.

“They requested additional street lights, which we provided. They also asked for transport and we have given them a new bus. We will ensure their solar system works better. We will continue to deepen our support for this institution and others.”

He encouraged parents and guardians to continue to support and pray for their children, especially those with special needs.

At Queen School, the Governor pledged to address other challenges such as perimeter fencing and electricity supply.

He lauded the vision of the school’s founders, saying the government owes them a duty to sustain their legacy.

The principals of both schools, Alhaji Abdulganiyi Olododo of the School for Special Needs and Alhaja Rashidat Oluwakemi Abdul of Queen School, praised the Governor for the gesture and his previous interventions while appealing for more assistance.

Olododo described the vehicle as a memorable gift, noting that the Governor’s contributions were evident across classrooms, the clinic, the hall, water supply and street lights.

Alhaja Abdul said the new bus would solve their transportation challenges and thanked the administration for investing in education.

President of the Old Students of Queen Elizabeth School, Dr Funke Opadokun, thanked the Governor for the gesture and highlighted his achievements in the education and road sector.
