The National Director, Special Olympics Nigeria, Folashade Bolumole, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone that the venue of the camp had yet to be determined.

She explained that the initial arrangement to have a three-phase camp between January and June had to be reviewed because of paucity of funds.

NAN reports that the Special Olympics World Summer Games are scheduled to hold from June 26 to July 5.

Bolumole said that pending the closed camping, the basketball team had been training at Ilupeju, while the swimming team trains at the Airport Hotel.

The football team, the director said, trained at Abeokuta, every other weekend to maintain their form.

“We have not allowed the lack of funds to deter our preparations for the Games.

In spite of this setback our athletes have been training enthusiastically for the Games.

“The closed camping exercise will be used to coordinate the different training programmes into a uniform schedule,’’ she said.

Bolumole solicited the financial support of corporate bodies and philanthropists for the team to augment what they had been receiving from their regular donors.

“We want to thank our partners and donors for their boundless support and urge them not to relent in their support for SON, ‘’Bolumole said.

Nigeria will be represented at the Games by a 49-member contingent, she said.
