A cleric, Imam Sulyman Alaaya, has urged Muslims to allow the lessons of Ramadan permeate their lives and sustain the momentum in terms of worship and alms giving after the conclusion of fasting and Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
Alaaya, who is the Chief Imam of Gbadamosi Olorunshogo Mosque, said at a forum in Ilorin, Kwara State capital that the level of spiritual decline among Muslims after Ramadan was worrisome.
This, he said, was contrary to the disposition toward Ramadan of the Prophet Muhammad’s companions and the generation after them, who, he said, used six months to prepare for Ramadan and sustained the meritorious deeds six months after.
He said “The decline in the level of spirituality of many Muslim after the holy month is worrisome. This is very sad and can compromise the rewards earned.
“Do not forget the lessons from all the sermons and admonitions by the clerics you listened to during the month of Ramadan. It is the end of Ramadan not the end of Ibadah (worship). Muslims are not worshippers of Ramadan, but Almighty Allah.”
Alaaya further encouraged Muslims to follow their month-long Ramadan fast with six days of fasting in the month of Shawwal as encouraged by Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
