SSANU issued the warning at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi over the weekend, where it condemned a circular issued by the National Universities Commission for the stoppage of check off dues for university unions.
The union also frowned at government’s insistence to enforce implementation of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in the universities, saying the system does not capture the peculiarities of the tertiary education system.
However, the communiqué, which was signed by SSANU President Comrade Samson Ugwoke, commended government for releasing N30 billion for the payment of the arrears of Earned Allowances, as captured in a 2009 agreement signed  between government and university unions.
But the union added that the N30 billion released and another N10 billion proposed to be released for the part-payment fell abysmally short of expected amount required for the payment of the arrears accrued from July 2009 to date.
Ugwoke urged the federal government to do a comprehensive bail-out of the universities by paying up all the arrears of the Earned Allowances up to 2013, while the universities should take up the implementation with affect from 2014.
He stated that another round of negotiation to renegotiate the 2009 agreement was long overdue, while calling on the federal government to rescind its decision to stop the funding of university staff primary schools and to cautioned governing councils against victimising and unduly interfering in activities of non-teaching staff in the universities.
