SSANU cautions FG against delay in renegotiation of 2009 agreement

A communiqué signed by SSANU’s President Comrade Samson Ugwoke and the union’s Public Relations Officer Comrade Nad Aboribo after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union at the University of Ibadan accused government of reneging on an agreement it signed.
It said SSANU “continues to note that the 2009 FGN/SSANU agreement is long over-due for renegotiation and the insistence of the union that this agreement be renegotiated has not been respected by the government.”
It warned government of the dangers of its “insensitive stand” on the matter, saying it is capable of completely disrupting the relative peace in the universities.
It urged the Federal Government to immediately put in place a machinery for the renegotiation of the agreement without any further delay.
The union also condemned both federal and state government’s failure to pay the arrears of “earned allowances,” while also expressing concern over the plight of Nigerian pensioners who it said, “have used their youthful age to serve the country and now have become frail and fragile without enough strength to fend for themselves.”
