SSANU, who disclosed this in a communiqué issued at the end of its national workshop on trade union practice at the Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River State, recently, said “Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under its fundamental Human Rights confers on every free citizen of Nigeria ‘Right to freedom to peaceful assembly and association’”.
The communiqué, which was signed by SSANU President Comrade Samson Ugwoke said despite provisions by the law, “powerful Nigerians who are operators of  private universities in the country, have consistently denied thousands of Nigerians working in these private universities this constitutional right  by inserting in their letters of employment inhuman clauses and ‘Yellow Dog Contracts’.
“SSANU has therefore resolved that it shall employ all peaceful and legal means to ensure that workers in public and private universities in Nigeria are organized for their mutual benefits and that of the system.”
The union also deliberated on education of its members, globalisation and exploitation of labour in Nigeria, university autonomy and governance, appointment of vice chancellors in Nigerian universities, the ongoing national conference and insecurity in Nigeria.
