Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) staged protests at various universities across the country Tuesday over the non-payment of their four months withheld salaries.
They demanded the immediate release of their salaries and threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if their demands were not met.
At Bayero University Kano (BUK), Abdullahi Nasiru, chairman of NASU, expressed frustration, stating that despite efforts by their national leadership in meetings with government representatives, no progress had been made.

Similarly, Anthony Joro, SSANU chairman at the University of Jos, emphasised the inevitability of the protest due to the federal government’s lack of commitment to paying their long-overdue salaries.
Comrade Gbenga Adenaiya, Acting Chairman of SSANU at the University of Lagos, expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction despite an earlier warning strike.
At the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), SSANU chairman Adedeji Kazeem Suarau called on the federal government to urgently implement their demands to prevent a breakdown of university education programmes.
Similarly, at the University of Ilorin, NASU chairman Zubair Ibrahim lamented the dire situation facing their members who struggle with basic needs like food and transportation due to the withheld salaries.
