Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili was today detained by security operatives as she was about to board an early morning flight to London.

The former Minister has been at the forefront of the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja movement, pressuring the Federal Government to rescue about 219 Chibok school girls abducted by terrorist over 90 days ago.

Today she posted about being detained by the SSS on her twitter handle, @obyezeks early this morning saying, “Is this a democracy? I am being detained by the SSS at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport. The SSS has refused to give my passport to me.”

Ezekwesili later posted that,”On my way to London this Morning for my. BBC hardtalk appearance billed for tomorrow and the SSS has detained me by withholding my passport.”

She also posted that,” SSS has released it. Just barely made the BA flight. Last to board at 7.55 for an 8 am flight that is now taxing. Is this a democracy?”

Ezekwesili last post read, ” No one can seize my democratic rights. I refused to let the SSS get away with trampling on my constitutional rights.”

However when contacted, the spokeswoman of the SSS, Marilyn Oga said “If we are doing a routine job does that mean that we detained her.”

She added that, Oby Ezekwesili is a free citizen of this country and has been coming and going as she pleased.
