The Chairman National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) Richard Egbule had recently said government should not be responsible for the payment of staff school workers’ salaries.
But SSANU President Comrade Samson Ugwoke in a press briefing weekend condemned the move saying it was a negation of an agreement the Federal Government signed with all varsity unions in 2009, insisting no unilateral action should be taken by any party on the matter.
Ugwoke also accused the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Julius Okojie of arm twisting universities’ management into stopping the funding of the staff schools through a circular.
“In the agreement entered into and signed by the federal government and (ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT), it was provided that the government through the universities’ councils should fully fund university primary schools.
“We are worried that the NSIWC which participated in that negotiation could turn around to repudiate the terms of those agreements. Since the agreements have not been renegotiated it means that the contents remain sacrosanct.
 “We are worried that the NUC executive secretary in concert with the NSIWC intends to sack all the teachers and nonteaching staff without recourse to our unions or renegotiation,” while urging President Muhammadu Buhari to sack heads of the NUC and the salaries commission because they are out to cause industrial disharmony.
