A play to emphasise the need to educate the girl child was staged by the pupils of Heritage Academy, Abuja recently.
A Nigerian adaptation of a classic movie, ‘Annie’, highlighted several social issues like the need for girl-child education, child labour and giving hope to hopeless children in the society.
Principal of the school, Mr Spencer Okoroafor said by re-enacting this moving story, the school hopes to draw attention to vulnerable children in the society.
“We aim to create awareness of the plight of the vulnerable children in our society by drawing the attention of key people and bodies in and outside the government to their plight,” he said.
‘Annie’ (adapted as Ayomide) is an engaging, entertaining and educative story of a girl growing up in an orphanage where she and her mates are forced to hawk for a living and are starved of education.
The play was produced by Film Ville in conjunction with Heritage Academy and staged at the National Universities Commission auditorium.
