Football lovers in Katsina have called on the state governor, Aminu Bello Masari, to immediately dissolve the management of Katsina United following the relegation of the club in the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League season.
It would be recalled that two north-western clubs; Kano Pillars, Katsina United and two southern clubs, Heartland and MFM were relegated from the NPFL to the Nigerian National League.
The relegation of Katsina United has come as shock and disappointment of stakeholders who have laid the blame for the mishap at the door step of the management of the club.
Umar Isyaku Ogunse, a former chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Katsina State chapter, said nepotism had played a major role in the fall of the club.
He alleged that instead of signing quality players, members of the management and other powers that be recruited players based on personal and selfish interests.
“It is a disappointment for the governor who has done everything for the club, disappointment to the President who is from Katsina State and disappointment for all of us after spending huge public funds on the team.”
Alhaji Aminu, another sports enthusiast in Katsina said, “Every sport lover in Katsina received the bad news with sadness because it is a painful situation.”
On his part, Alhaji Nasir Iron Baba, the chairman, Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, Katsina state Chapter, said it did not come as a surprise to him because members of the management committee were not committed to the task but rather used the opportunity to “make money”
“They were given about N950m but they have squandered everything. We were expecting this result, you can’t place an auto mechanic in a hospital to take care of patients and then expect a good result.
“Government must overhaul the entire management committee and bring in those who have the expertise and the love of the game at heart to manage the club,” he advised.
