Stakeholders in the education sector has advocated the need for policy reforms in the sector to enable Nigeria secure its relevance in the global stage.

The stakeholders who spoke recently at a policy dialogue organized by Ednue Initiative at Nile University, Abuja brainstormed on the actionable strategies for transforming Nigeria’s education system.
The stakeholders cutting across educators, policymakers, and development had the goal to ensure policies not only meet local needs but also position Nigeria as a competitive player in the 21st-century knowledge economy.
The founder Ednue Initiative Ahmad Tubo in a statement made available to journalists said experts emphasized that to foster socio-economic development, Nigeria must improve curriculum innovation, teacher training, infrastructure, and technology integration.
He further advocated the need for structured, long-term advocacy to bridge policy ideas and tangible change, saying history has shown that Nigeria’s most progressive policies were born out of relentless advocacy.
He said the recent improvements in tax laws, which came after years of civil society campaigns pushing for transparency and efficiency, proves that when citizens and organized groups consistently engage the system, reform becomes inevitable.
Tubo recalled that his advocacy journey from being a citizen to change maker started from his belief that Nigeria’s development is hinged on informed, active citizenship.
He said that although he may just be one person, he recognize that systemic change begins with individuals who dare to challenge the status quo, adding that the Initiative was committed to building a movement that empowers everyday Nigerians with the knowledge to demand better governance.
He disclosed that they have community volunteers spreading social education across regions and equipping citizens with the tools to hold leaders accountable, saying when people understand how policies affect their lives, they will become active participants in shaping those policies.
Tubo disclosed plans for a nationwide campaign to educate citizens on their role in policy development, engage communities in dialogues about education reform and empower-the next generation of advocates who will drive Nigeria’s development agenda.
He said “I envision a Nigeria where policy is not just made for the people but with the people. And I am confident that with sustained advocacy, we will get there.”
