Making the call at a stakeholders meeting organized by Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON) in Kano, a consultant with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Adesina Adedakum, said bringing primary health care under one roof means establishing a single management body with adequate capacity that has control over services and resources.
He said such initiative was aimed at addressing the challenges militating against the smooth provision of primary health care to the populace, “Bringing primary health care under one roof is aimed at reforming and strengthening the health system by creating a unitary, integrated and decentralized management structure for the secondary and primary health care levels,” he said.
He further explained that this could be achieved when stakeholders join hands to work together. “Primary health care under one roof is a reform agenda, therefore everyone is a stakeholder. Each stakeholder must understand the concept, own the process and support its full implementation,” he said.
Earlier in her speech, HERFON Kano chairperson Hajia Zainab Muhammad said the meeting was primarily aimed at engaging stakeholders in Kano State ranging from government officials most especially in the health sector, the media and civil society organizations on how to forge ahead at the primary health care level.
