The company made this pronouncement at the launch of ‘Farm-to-Table: Foton for Farmers’ scheme at the Yar’ Ardua Centre Abuja.

Mr Prashant Sinha, Director, Sales and Marketing, Foton, a subsidiary of Stallion Motors Limited, said during the launching that the best way to transform a nation’s economy is to first help it become sufficient in food production.

Mr Sinha explained that the scheme sought to reintegrate Nigerian youths into modern agro business, teach them how to explore modern method of farming and improve their crop yield to maximise profit.

He lauded the efforts of Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, Minister of Agriculture whom he described as an indefatigable administrator that has always devoted his time to not only change the face of agriculture in Nigeria but amalgamate youths who until recently thought farming was for the aged and drop-outs.

He explained that the choice of Foton brand of Pick-up was motivated by the uniqueness of the vehicle which was specially designed by Chinese engineers for farmers to withstand whatever harsh jobs, yet delivers unprecedented value for money.

“A product of contemporary automobile engineering, Foton Pick-up ranks amongst upscale Japanese and American rivals and needless to say Foton Pick-up comes with small costs of ownership,” said Mr Sinha.

‘Farm-to-Table: Foton for Farmers’ is a re-orientation scheme for local farmers organised by Admiral Environmental Care in collaboration with Stallion Motors Limited, a renowned merchandise and industrialist.

The vehicle which is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations is powered by 2.2litre petrol engine with a gross weight of 2370kg with maximum payload of 1040kg and a maximum towing capacity of 2500kg.

Foton Pick-up’s price is between 30 and 40 per cent lesser than comparable models from Japanese manufacturers. The price shall be discounted for farmers who are members of AFAN.

These features, according to Sinhar, makes Foton a compelling proposition for buyers whether they are farmers, tradesmen, fleet operators or private buyers.

Also speaking at the event, Mr Shedrak Madlion, Chief Executive, Admiral Environmental Care said the initiative is crucial to raising the profile of farmers and empowering them in the face of mounting challenges.

“The primary challenge of farmers is how to evacuate their produce from their farms to the market, which has always resulted in loss of between 60 – 70 percent of their annual harvest,” Madlion said.
