President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday assured Nigerians that the country is emerging from economic and security challenges, declaring that Nigeria is “out of the woods.” He also pledged that efforts to establish state police are underway to address persistent insecurity across the country.

The president spoke during a Ramadan Iftar with state governors, two deputy governors and senior officials at the State House, Abuja.

He stressed the need for resilience and collective commitment to national recovery.

“The result of hard work is more work. But as long as we move together and are determined to rescue this country, the best is yet to come.

“We are out of the woods. We are out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty,” he said.

On insecurity, President Tinubu added, “For those unemployed, I promise that we will establish state police to strengthen security in our local governments.”

He also called for unity, sacrifice, and inclusivity as Muslims observe Ramadan and Christians observe Lent.

Tinubu commended Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his Ramadan feeding initiatives and urged greater youth empowerment and grassroots development.

“Discipline, sacrifice, faith, perseverance, and determination are essential for us to pray together, love one another, and serve humanity,” he said.

He further applauded the governors for their achievements, noting the high turnout despite ongoing party congresses and local engagements.

“I thank God for what we’ve been able to achieve together. We’ve seen progress and commitment to duty,” he added, emphasising the need to spread development opportunities across local governments and engage young people compassionately.

The event featured interfaith prayers by State House Chief Imam Abdulwaheed (Muslim) and Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas (Christian).

Earlier, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman, commended Tinubu for fostering national unity amid religious and ethnic tensions.

He described the gathering as divinely inspired, noting that the rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder for Nigerians to set aside differences.

Uzodinma praised the President for promoting collaboration with governors and encouraging support for the less privileged during the fasting period.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members attended, alongside governors including Alex Otti (Abia), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba), among others.
