Ahead of the planned implementation of the Federal Government’s state policing policy, the Delta State Government has approved the construction of 25 divisional police headquarters across the state’s local government areas as part of efforts to strengthen security.
Daily Trust gathered that the project, alongside the establishment of a Special Police Protection Unit (SPU), will cost the state government over N34 billion.
Addressing journalists after the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the council approved the construction of the divisional headquarters in each of the 25 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the initiative aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda and the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

“The Executive Council approved the construction of 25 modern divisional police headquarters, one in each of the local government areas,” Aniagwu said.
He explained that the projects are intended to strengthen the state’s security architecture, particularly as the Federal Government moves towards implementing state policing nationwide.
Aniagwu noted that the approval reflects the state government’s proactive steps to enhance safety and security for residents.
“Flowing from that, and ahead of the Federal Government’s policy on state policing, the state government today approved the construction of state-of-the-art divisional police headquarters in the 25 local government areas of the state. That means we are going to have 25 of such facilities,” he said.
“In addition, the Executive Council also approved the establishment of a Special Police Protection Unit. These two projects together will gulp over N34 billion.”
