A financial technology company, Interswitch, has said the adoption of technology for tax collection by state governments would increase their revenue and block leakages.
Speaking during a workshop organized for head of northern state revenue chairmen yesterday in Abuja, Interswitch’s Regional head, North and Abuja, Thomas Ezeh, said the north has great potential to increase its revenue if tax collection is automated.
“Our major activity is to help the states collect their revenue but we feel it is a good time to call them together to discuss, share thoughts and information we have with them. The North is having a lot of opportunities and there are a lot of challenges in Nigeria in revenue generation, we believe that this kind of engagement will help them develop in many of these areas.”
On his part, the Group Head for Government and Mass Transit Business, Osasere Atohenghe, noted that technology is an enabler that helps to block leakages and fully optimise the various potentials that exist within the respective sector in the states and bring visibility to government business.
