Dr. Olatunde Adekola, a Senior Education Specialist at the World Bank, gave this advice in Abuja while delivering a paper at the retirement seminar for Professor Obioma Godswill, Executive Secretary of Nigeria Education Research Development Council (NERDC).
Adekola said the centres, when established, should focus on Early Child Care Development (ECCD), multi-grade teaching, mother tongue, English, mathematics, primary science and classroom interactions.
“States and non-state actors should carry out demand driven action research study and activities on Language Literacy and Learning especially on mother tongue, multi grade and teaching of English to improve learning outcome, strengthening the education resource centres and ensure adequate and effective use of resources,” he said.
The chairman, NERDC Governing Board, Dr. Stephen Dike, described Godswill as a visionary leader, who contributed immensely to the growth and development of the NERDC, both locally and internationally.
“The council has evolved into a robust, responsible and reputable institution due to the resourcefulness, diligence and selfless service of executive secretary,” he said.
Responding, Godswill thanked the governing board and staff for believing in him and supporting him.
