Minister of Communications, Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, has called on state governments to promote the acquisition of religious knowledge saying a blend of Western and Islamic education is the panacea for the ills stifling sustainable development.
While on a courtesy visit to the Katsina State governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, the minister advocated that all children in primary and secondary schools should receive basic Islamic education in addition to Western education to give them the benefit of sound training and moral rectitude when they assume positions of responsibility in the society.
“Education is a tool for the advancement of humanity; combining Western education with proper Islamic education will give us future leaders who are diligent in their profession and who will lead the nation with the fear of God,” he said urging Governor Masari to consider making all public schools in the state run the two streams.
The minister also visited Riyadul Quran Islamiyyah Nursery/Primary School, Sautus Sunnah Academy and Al-Qalam University, all in Katsina town.
